Every community in America has two problems hiding in plain sight — tattered flags nobody replaces, and combat veterans who lost their tribe the day they took off the uniform.
Keep the Standard is one program that answers both. Monthly Flag Detail missions where combat veterans gather for breakfast, brief, and deploy in teams to replace worn American flags across their community — free of charge — retiring the old colors with proper ceremony.
It works because it has a briefing, teams, routes, and a debrief. The flags get veterans in the door. The brotherhood keeps them coming back. Social connection is one of the strongest protective factors against veteran suicide — and this model delivers it in the only packaging most combat veterans will accept.
“The standard” is the oldest word for the flag itself. Standard bearers carried the colors into battle. These men kept the standard in uniform — this is how they keep it now.
The Detail
Breakfast. Brief. Deploy. Debrief.
Teams meet at a local hall for coffee and a briefing. Routes are assigned. Trucks roll out. Worn colors come down with ceremony, new colors go up, and the day ends the same way it started — with the men who showed up, still standing together.
